Grief can feel like getting punched in the gut, the wind knocked out of us... we can't breathe. Time stops for us, yet life around us carries on. Everything has changed...we have changed.
Grief arises and remains because we loved and cared deeply. As time carries on, the love is still there, but we don’t know where to channel it.
Grief is as unique as a fingerprint, and there is no road map. No two people will grieve the same loss in the same way.
Grief can feel lonely, even with people by our side offering support.
Ways Grief Can Manifest in Our Lives
We’re trying to return to “normal” life, but responsibilities at work and at home feel overwhelming
We feel stiff in our body, where grief may be manifesting as physical pain
Our emotions are all over the place and differ vastly from day-to-day—sometimes we can feel like a crazy person
We feel we “should” be done grieving already...but we’re not
We often feel the need to change the subject for other people’s comfort
We feel like keeping our heart closed will shield us from any more pain, loss, or heartbreak
We don’t have the time or space to fully feel our grief, so we suppress and ignore our most painful emotions
About Yoga for Grief and Emotional Liberation
The Grief Yoga® method, created by the wonderful Paul Denniston of Los Angeles, is a highly-accessible practice focused on emotional liberation rather than physical strength or flexibility. As a certified Grief Yoga® teacher I provide a safe space and guidance through a powerful mind-body experience. Using movement, breath, and sound we create compassionate transformation. We bring awareness to our grief, express ourselves freely, find connection with the present, and surrender to a new sense of inner trust. Through this practice, we allow the love within our grief to radiate more powerfully.
These classes offer gentle movement and meditative practices that can be adapted to most abilities. It’s possible for students to fully participate from a chair or even lying down.
